Lisa Bauer is a SA jazz artist and educator. Qualifications include a MMus (jazz perf. 2011), BMus (jazz perf. on voice/drum kit with a dist. in singing, 2004). In 2007 Bauer was a finalist and merit award winner in the SAMRO Singing Overseas Scholarship Competition. J. Kramer scholarship awards allowed travel to NYC & SF. Her 2011 SAMA-nominated debut album Finding a New Way features SA jazz greats and Bauer and Andre Petersen’s rendition of Ntjilo Ntjilo inspired by the legacy of Miriam Makeba. A highlight was performing as featured artist at the 12th CTIJF. Her composition De Ja Blues was selected for the 12th CTIJF compilation CD alongside artists Esperanza Spalding, Wayne Shorter, Cindy Blackman and Earth Wind and Fire. Other highlights include the Seychelles (2010) for a VIP client and the Kirstenbosch Concert Series (2008). Her first single A Life That’s Lead with jazz pianist Prof Andrew Lilley. Her recent single Africa Rejoice features lyrics inspired by poet Thobile Masondo.
